State Pharmaceutical on Wednesday opened its first pharmacy outlet at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital as part of efforts to address medication supply issues.

The pharmacy is located in the hospital’s Outpatient Department area.

According to State Pharma, the outlet marks the beginning of the company’s operations aimed at improving access to pharmaceuticals and medical supplies.

The company stated that the pharmacy will operate 24 hours a day.

State Pharma said the outlet will provide prescription medicines, over-the-counter medication and arrangements for sourcing medicines from overseas.

Under the proposed system, medicines unavailable in the Maldives will be procured internationally to meet public demand.

The company also stated that discussions are ongoing with IGMH to supply medicines and medical equipment directly to admitted patients through the pharmacy.

According to State Pharma, its long-term objective is to establish a system to ensure the availability of essential medicines across all islands of the Maldives.

The company further noted that it launched the “State Pharma Portal” last month to facilitate service requests and improve access to services.

State Pharma also operates a 24-hour service hotline.
