EU grants €4 million for mangrove protection in Maldives
According to the Foreign Ministry, the grant will support community-based conservation initiatives focused on mangrove protection and restoration.

The European Union on Thursday signed a grant agreement worth €4 million (MVR 71.6 million) to support mangrove protection and restoration efforts in the Maldives.
The funding is being provided under a project titled “Community-Based Mangrove Protection and Regeneration.”
The agreement signing ceremony was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to the Foreign Ministry, the grant will support community-based conservation initiatives focused on mangrove protection and restoration.
The ministry stated that the project will include activities related to biodiversity conservation, coastal protection and climate change mitigation.
The ministry also noted that the funding would support implementation of the Maldives’ Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) 3.0 commitments under the Paris Agreement.
Following the signing ceremony, State Minister Sheryna thanked the EU for its continued assistance to the Maldives, particularly in environmental protection and climate-related programmes.
