Bangladeshi man remanded over human trafficking of wife

A Bangladeshi national has been arrested on suspicion of confining his wife and forcing her into prostitution.
The suspect has been identified as 30-year-old Mohamed Nahidul Islam. He was presented before the Criminal Court on Wednesday for a remand hearing.

According to the court's remand order, Nahidul was arrested on suspicion of committing a human trafficking offence. The order states that investigators presented evidence indicating that the alleged offence may have been committed.
Police told the court that the case came to light after the woman reported the matter herself. According to police submissions, she alleged that her husband had kept her confined in a room and forced her to engage in prostitution against her will.
Investigators also submitted documents relating to the victim as part of the remand proceedings.
The case remains under investigation.
