Maldives Police Service has arrested three Bangladeshi nationals on suspicion of buying and selling foreign currency without authorisation at inflated rates.
Police identified the three individuals as Amir Hussain, MD Mizanur Rahman and Siraz Khan.
According to police, the arrests were made during an operation conducted following information received through a hotline established to report individuals involved in unauthorised foreign currency transactions in the Maldives.
The three suspects have since been transferred to the custody of Maldives Immigration.
Police said further action against the individuals would be determined based on additional information obtained during the investigation.
The arrests come as authorities continue efforts to identify individuals and businesses engaged in foreign currency trading without licences issued by the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA).
