Maldives president extends congratulations as Modi sets new tenure record
As of Wednesday, Modi had completed 4,399 consecutive days in office, surpassing Nehru's record and setting a new milestone in Indian political history.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on Wednesday congratulated Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on becoming the longest-serving Prime Minister in India's history to hold office consecutively.
The President conveyed his congratulations in a message posted on the social media platform X.
In his message, President Muizzu also expressed hope for continued cooperation between the Maldives and India.
"The Maldives looks forward to further strengthening the bilateral relationship between our two nations, rooted in mutual respect, sovereign equality, and shared values," the President said.
Modi first assumed office as Prime Minister in May 2014 and is currently serving his third consecutive term.
The previous record for the longest uninterrupted tenure as India's Prime Minister was held by Jawaharlal Nehru, who served for 4,398 days.
