Zakat House pays MVR 5,500 per person as Zakat al-Maal

The Maldives Zakat House has distributed MVR 13.1 million in Zakat al-Maal to individuals registered under the national poverty registry.

According to Zakat House, a total of 2,384 eligible beneficiaries received payments this year, with each person receiving MVR 5,500.

The institution stated on Thursday that the funds were distributed to individuals registered in the poverty registry up to the first day of Al-Hijjah.

Zakat House noted that the per capita allocation of MVR 5,500 is the highest amount distributed under the Zakat al-Maal programme to date.

Last year, beneficiaries received MVR 5,000 each under the same programme.

Zakat al-Maal is distributed to eligible recipients using funds collected through wealth-based zakat contributions, in accordance with Islamic principles and national regulations.

The annual distribution is administered through the Zakat House and targets individuals listed in the poverty registry.
