The Rasfannu swimming area reopened to the public on Friday following the completion of repair and restoration works.

Parts of Rasfannu had been closed since April to facilitate maintenance work.

In a statement, the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure said the swimming area would reopen from Friday morning after the completion of the required repairs.

The restoration project was carried out by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).

According to the ministry, the works included the installation of pipes to improve water circulation in the sea and upgrades to the drainage system on the northern side of the area.

While the swimming area has reopened, maintenance work in other sections of Rasfannu remains ongoing.

The ministry thanked members of the public for their cooperation during the implementation of the project.

Rasfannu is managed by the Malé City Council. The restoration programme was launched following public concerns regarding the condition of facilities in the area.

In February last year, President Mohamed Muizzu said efforts would be undertaken to restore Rasfannu and Sultan Park. Both locations were developed during the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen, when Muizzu served as Minister of Housing.
