Addu court orders closure of another suspected drug den
The property, named 'Ummeedhu' and located in S. Maradhoofeydhoo, was ordered closed for 90 days by the island's Magistrate Court on Monday.
A house in Addu City has been closed under a court order over allegations that it was being used to facilitate illicit drug use.
The property, named 'Ummeedhu' and located in S. Maradhoofeydhoo, was ordered closed for 90 days by the island's Magistrate Court on Monday.
The order was issued under provisions of the Drugs Act.
In a statement, Maldives Police Service said entering or leaving a property closed under such an order without authorisation during the specified period constitutes a criminal offence.
Police said legal action would be taken against individuals who enter the premises without permission or cause damage to the property while the order remains in force.
The service also thanked members of the public for assisting efforts to combat drug trafficking and drug-related offences in Addu City.
Police said operations would continue to identify and take action against other premises suspected of being used for similar activities in accordance with the law.
The closure of 'Ummeedhu' marks the second such order issued by a court in Addu this month.
On 8 June, a house named 'Laamiyaageaage' in S. Hithadhoo was ordered closed following allegations of involvement in drug use and trafficking.
Police also confirmed that an individual was arrested on Sunday for entering the Hithadhoo property while the court order remained in effect.
