Over 58,000 apply for govt housing schemes
The application deadline was extended several times before the submission period ended on 15 June.

More than 58,000 applications were submitted for government housing schemes before the application period for flats and land plots closed, according to the Ministry of Housing.
Applications under the government's 'Aailee Boahiyaavahikan' (Family Housing) and 'Gedhoruveriya' housing programmes for the Malé region opened on 18 January 2026.
The application deadline was extended several times before the submission period ended on 15 June.
Statistics released by the ministry show that a total of 58,505 applications were received across the two schemes.
Under the Aailee Boahiyaavahikan programme, 35,818 applications were submitted for flats, while 9,826 applications were received for land plots.
Under the Gedhoruveriya programme, the ministry received 112 applications for flats and 12,749 applications for land plots.
The combined figures show that applications for flats accounted for 35,930 submissions, while applications for land plots totalled 22,575.
The ministry has not yet announced a timeline for the review and evaluation of applications.
