Ex-presidents lose MNDF protection while taking part in protests
The decision comes as former Presidents Nasheed, Yameen and Solih have announced cooperation in opposing the current administration.

The People's Majlis Committee on National Security Services (241 Committee) has approved an amendment to the regulation governing Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) VIP security, providing that former presidents will not receive MNDF protection while participating in street protests.
The amendment was proposed by Kelaa MP Abdulla Shareef of the ruling People's National Congress (PNC).
The proposal was approved during the committee's meeting on Monday with the support of PNC members.
The members who voted against the amendment were:

Hanimaadhoo MP Abdul Ghafoor Moosa of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).

Maafannu North MP Mohamed Nazim of the Maldives National Party (MNP).

Thulhaadhoo MP Abdul Hannan Aboobakuru, an independent member.
The committee meeting was held behind closed doors after it commenced, and the reasons for proposing the amendment were not disclosed publicly.
The decision comes as former Presidents Mohamed Nasheed, Abdulla Yameen and Ibrahim Mohamed Solih have announced cooperation in opposing the current administration.
Nasheed and Solih have also taken part in public gatherings and street activities organised by the opposition MDP.
