The government has amended regulations governing the employment of persons with disabilities, requiring employers and the relevant ministry to provide assistance to applicants during the recruitment process.

The amendments were published in the Government Gazette on Monday.

Under the revised regulations, employers and the ministry must assist applicants with disabilities who request support in completing, submitting or processing job application forms.

The amendments also require all recruitment and job placement processes involving persons with disabilities to be carried out in accordance with the regulations and institutional standards on the employment of persons with disabilities.

The standards include workplace requirements for employing persons with disabilities, guidance on reasonable adjustments that employers are required to make to support employees with disabilities, and standards governing the placement of persons with disabilities in employment.

In addition, the amended regulations assign the ministry responsibility for preparing competency profiles for persons with disabilities, excluding students currently enrolled in educational institutions.

The regulations require the ministry to provide the completed competency profile to the individual concerned within seven days of its preparation.
