Maldives' first developmental paediatrician Dr Fazna dies at 47

Dr Aminath Fazna, the Maldives' first developmental paediatrician, has died at the age of 47.
Dr Fazna, from GDh. Gaddhoo, died in Malé on Thursday while undergoing treatment for cancer.
She was the first doctor in the Maldives to specialise in developmental paediatrics, focusing on conditions including autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and learning disabilities.
Dr Fazna completed three years of specialist training at the National University of Malaysia and the University of California in the United States.
After completing her training, she joined the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in 2024, where she provided developmental assessment and care for children.
Her funeral prayer (Janazah) will be held after the Isha prayer on Thursday at the Aa-Sahara Mosque.
