Customs seizes 3.6kg of synthetic cathinone sent through post

The Maldives Customs Service has seized a shipment of narcotics that was allegedly smuggled into the country through the postal system.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Customs said the drugs were intercepted on 18 last month.

According to the authority, the seized substance was identified as Synthetic Cathinone, with a total weight of 3.6 kilograms.

Customs estimated the value of the shipment at approximately MVR 3.6 million, adding that its street value exceeds MVR 5 million.

The case is the latest in a series of drug seizures made through postal, air and sea cargo channels as authorities continue efforts to prevent the import of illicit narcotics into the Maldives.
