Emir of Qatar meets President Muizzu in Doha
President Muizzu conveyed condolences on behalf of the Maldivian people and the Government of the Maldives following the passing of former Emir Sheikh Hamad.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu met with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, on Monday during an official visit to Doha.
According to the President's Office, the meeting was held at Lusail Palace.
During the meeting, President Muizzu conveyed condolences on behalf of the Maldivian people and the Government of the Maldives following the passing of former Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
The President's Office said the two leaders also discussed bilateral relations and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation between the Maldives and Qatar.
Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani played a role in the development of relations between the two countries during his time as Emir.
His tenure saw the launch of Qatar Airways services to the Maldives, the establishment of the Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani School in Laamu Atoll and the construction of Masjid-al-Sheikh Qasim bin Al Thani in Hulhumalé.
Sheikh Hamad served as Emir of Qatar from 1995 until 2013, when he transferred power to his son, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the current Emir of Qatar.
