The Government of Maldives has decided to open a new embassy in Qatar, according to a statement issued by the President’s Office.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced the decision on Sunday, stating that the primary objective of the new diplomatic mission is to enhance cooperation in the areas of education, politics, the economy, and defence.
Maldives previously did not have an embassy in Qatar.
This marks the second embassy opened by the current administration. Earlier, an embassy was established in Turkey, with former Chief of Defence Force Abdul Raheem Abdul Latheef appointed as ambassador.
With the establishment of the embassy in Qatar, the total number of Maldivian embassies, permanent missions, and consulates abroad will increase to 10.
