Under the Drugs Act, the court ordered the closure of part of M. Landofgarden.
According to the Maldives Police Service, the premises will remain closed for three months from last Monday.
Police said this is the sixth property in Malé to be closed under the relevant provisions of the Drugs Act.
The first closure order for a property used as a drug den was issued in May. Since then, the court has ordered the closure of five other locations:
-
H. Gunzar
-
M. Tharivilaage
-
Part of M. Ameeraamanzil
-
Ma. Seven End House
-
H. Kandufinige
Police said unauthorised entry into or exit from properties sealed under the court order during the closure period constitutes a criminal offence.
The police also warned that legal action would be taken against anyone who trespasses on or damages the sealed properties.
Recent amendments to the Drugs Act increased penalties related to premises used for drug consumption or drug trafficking. Under the amended law, property owners found to have allowed their premises to be used for such purposes may face up to 15 years' imprisonment and fines ranging from MVR 200,000 to MVR 1 million.
