Volleyball player Fazil arrested in Keyodhoo drug investigation

Volleyball player Ahmed Fazil has been arrested in V. Keyodhoo as part of a police investigation into suspected drug dealing, with officers reporting the seizure of more than 265 grams of substances believed to be narcotics.

Police said on Saturday that Fazil, 31, of Dheyliyage, V. Keyodhoo, was arrested on Thursday during an operation conducted by Drug Enforcement, Counter Narcotics Intelligence and V. Atoll Police.

According to police, officers searched two residential properties in Keyodhoo as part of the operation.

Police said the searches were conducted based on suspicions that Fazil was involved in the sale and distribution of drugs.

During the searches, officers seized 265.01 grams of substances suspected to be narcotics.

Police have not disclosed the type of substances recovered. The material is suspected to be drugs pending further examination.

Fazil was subsequently presented before a court for a remand hearing. The court ordered that he be held in custody for 10 days while the investigation continues.

Police said the case remains under investigation and have not disclosed whether other suspects are being sought in connection with the matter.

Fazil was also arrested last month in connection with a separate assault investigation in Keyodhoo.

National volleyball team player Ahmed Fairooz was also arrested in relation to that case.

Police said the investigation into the assault remains ongoing.
