Pulmonology, neuro-interventional radiology specialists join IGMH
Dr Farahath Moosa has joined as a Specialist Registrar in Pulmonology, while Dr Maeesha Solih has joined as a Specialist in Neuro-interventional Radiology.
Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) has expanded its specialist services with the appointment of two Maldivian doctors in pulmonology and neuro-interventional radiology.
The hospital announced on Tuesday that Dr Farahath Moosa has joined as a Specialist Registrar in Pulmonology, while Dr Maeesha Solih has joined as a Specialist in Neuro-interventional Radiology.
Pulmonology focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory conditions, including pneumonia, tuberculosis, lung infections, lung cancer, asthma and sleep apnoea. Specialists in the field also carry out diagnostic tests and procedures related to respiratory diseases.
Neuro-interventional radiology is a medical specialty that treats conditions affecting the brain, spine and neck using minimally invasive catheter-based techniques instead of open surgery.
According to IGMH, procedures performed in this specialty include the removal of blood clots in patients with stroke, treatment of brain aneurysms before rupture, and treatment of vascular malformations affecting the brain and spinal cord.
The procedures are carried out by inserting a catheter through a blood vessel in the arm or leg and guiding it to the affected area using medical imaging.
IGMH said the addition of the two specialists expands the range of specialist services available at the hospital.
