16 Maldivian specialists join IGMH, Dharumavantha Hospital this year

A total of 16 Maldivian doctors have completed specialist training and joined the Malé City Group of Hospitals (MCGH), which includes Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) and Dharumavantha Hospital, this year.
MCGH Chief Executive Officer Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem announced the appointments in a post on X on Thursday.
According to Haleem, the new recruits include specialists and sub-specialists in disciplines that have not previously been available in the Maldives.
The new specialties include neuro-interventional radiology, paediatric dentistry, neonatology and clinical haematology.
Doctors have also joined departments including orthopaedics, internal medicine, neurology, radiology, ear, nose and throat (ENT), gastroenterology, plastic surgery, vascular surgery and pulmonology.
Haleem said the hospital group also plans to introduce additional healthcare services before the end of the year.
"Services in cardiothoracic and vascular surgery and interventional radiology, alongside expanded modern care for cardiac and neurological conditions, will be launched this year, God willing," he said. "This is a crucial step forward in reducing our reliance on travelling abroad for medical treatment."
Haleem thanked President Dr Mohamed Muizzu for supporting the development of the country's healthcare system and efforts to make more treatments available within the Maldives.
He also expressed appreciation to the doctors, nurses, allied health professionals, technicians, support staff and administrative employees working across the Malé City Group of Hospitals.
"I am immensely proud of all our staff," Haleem said. "I encourage everyone to continue striving to provide high-quality, compassionate, and attentive care to every patient who visits our hospitals."
