Thilafushi fire cuts waste intake from transfer sites
The corporation said the operations of the Hulhumalé and Vilimalé waste transfer stations have also been affected as a result.

A fire at the Regional Waste Management Facility in K. Thilafushi has reduced the amount of waste being accepted from the transfer stations in Hulhumalé and Vilimalé.
The fire broke out at a landfill within the Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) facility at 10:20 pm on Tuesday and was brought under control at around 8:00 am on Wednesday.
In a statement, WAMCO said some sections of the Thilafushi facility have been closed following the incident, affecting daily operations and disrupting services provided from the site.
The corporation said the operations of the Hulhumalé and Vilimalé waste transfer stations have also been affected as a result.
As restoration work continues at the Thilafushi facility, WAMCO said the transfer stations have been required to reduce the amount of waste they receive.
The corporation said it is assessing operations across all affected sites and taking the necessary measures to restore services as soon as possible while minimising the impact on the public.
WAMCO apologised for the inconvenience caused by the disruption.
