President dismisses employment tribunal vice president

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has dismissed Fathimath Maheera Mohamed from her position as Vice President of the Employment Tribunal.
A source confirmed to Dhauru that Maheera, who is from Lh. Hinnavaru, was removed from office on Tuesday.
Maheera was appointed as Vice President of the Employment Tribunal by President Muizzu in April 2024.
The President's Office has not announced the reason for her dismissal, and no official statement has been issued regarding the decision.
The dismissal came on the same day President Muizzu appointed Amjad Musthafa as President of the Employment Tribunal following the resignation of the former president, Ishaq Hussain.
Following Maheera's removal, the Employment Tribunal's website lists the position of Vice President as vacant.
The changes at the tribunal come as the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has raised concerns over employee dismissals at state-owned enterprises (SOEs). Several cases relating to alleged wrongful termination have already been submitted to the tribunal.
The government has said the workforce reductions are part of measures to reduce expenditure by eliminating redundant positions and are being carried out in accordance with existing regulations.
The MDP, however, has alleged that the dismissals have disproportionately affected employees affiliated with the party.
