The Maldives Medical and Dental Council (MMDC) has temporarily suspended its recognition of the Bachelor of Science in Psychology programme offered by the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA in the Philippines.

The programme had been recognised by the MMDC as an approved pre-medicine course since 11 August 2024.

In an announcement issued on Wednesday, the council said the recognition had been suspended following issues identified in relation to the programme. The MMDC did not disclose the nature of those issues.

The council, however, said exemptions would apply to certain categories of students.

These include students currently enrolled in medical or dental degree programmes after completing the pre-medicine course, as well as individuals who completed the programme before 21 July 2026 and are in the process of securing admission to a medical or dental college.

The exemptions also cover students who had enrolled in and were undertaking the pre-medicine course before 21 July 2026, and those who had secured admission and paid tuition fees before that date for a programme scheduled to commence this year.

The MMDC said the suspension applies while issues relating to the programme are being addressed.
