JSC says Judge Ihsan suspended over sexual harassment probe
According to the commission, statements have already been obtained from Ihsan and other individuals connected to the case.
The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has confirmed that the suspension of Civil Court Judge Abdulla Ihsan is linked to an ongoing investigation into allegations of sexual harassment.
The clarification was issued on Wednesday night following the commission's earlier announcement that Ihsan had been suspended from duties for six days pending an investigation.
At the time of the suspension, reports had indicated that Civil Court employees had also submitted a conduct-related complaint concerning the judge. However, the JSC has now stated that the suspension relates specifically to a sexual harassment investigation.
According to the commission, statements have already been obtained from Ihsan and other individuals connected to the case.
The JSC said the decision to suspend the judge was taken after considering the nature of the allegations and information gathered during the investigation.
In its statement, the commission said the suspension was necessary to prevent any potential interference with the investigation while it remains ongoing.
The JSC has not disclosed further details regarding the allegations or the circumstances of the case.
The commission also did not indicate when the investigation is expected to conclude.
Separately, Civil Court employees have previously submitted complaints to the JSC concerning workplace conduct issues involving members of the judiciary.
Among those complaints was an allegation that Ihsan had harassed court employees.
Staff members also lodged a complaint regarding Judge Hafiza Abdulla Sattar, raising concerns about her interactions with employees.
The JSC has not stated whether those complaints are being reviewed as part of the current investigation.
The commission said the investigation into the allegations against Ihsan remains ongoing.
