Parliament approves Jameela Ali as Maldives ambassador to UK
In 2017, during the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen, Jameela was appointed as the first Maldivian Ambassador to Germany.

Parliament on Wednesday approved the appointment of Jameela Ali, a former Vice President of the Civil Service Commission (CSC), as the Maldives’ Ambassador to the United Kingdom.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu submitted Jameela’s nomination to Parliament last week for approval.
The nomination was reviewed by Parliament’s Foreign Relations Committee, which endorsed her appointment and submitted its report to the chamber.
When the committee report was put to a vote during Wednesday’s sitting, Jameela’s appointment was approved with 59 votes. No MPs voted against the nomination.
Jameela joined the Civil Service Commission in 2012 during the administration of former President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan. She became Vice President of the commission in 2015.
In 2017, during the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen, Jameela was appointed as the first Maldivian Ambassador to Germany.
She later contested the Machangoalhi Uthuru constituency in the 2019 parliamentary election on the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) ticket.
Before joining the Civil Service Commission, Jameela worked in the education sector and at Television Maldives (TVM).
The Maldives’ ambassadorial post in the United Kingdom became vacant after Iruthisham Adam, who previously held the position, was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs in April.
