MVR 28m fine for resort beach protection works without EIA
EPA said it had fined the company MVR 28.4 million on Thursday for failing to complete the EIA process.

The Environment Protection Agency (EPA) on Sunday imposed a fine of MVR 28 million on the company that operates Radisson Blue Resort for failing to submit the Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) report on the Huruelhi island's beach conservation project.
EPA said in a statement that the island's coastal protection project was completed by Huruelhi Investment Pvt. Ltd. without the EIA.
Among the work carried out by the company that runs the resort without the EIA:

1,055 square metres dredged, sand mined from 1,582 square metres

The company claims that the sand collected for the work has been dumped in the back of the keywall of the port
