MP Jabir resigns from DRP; to form Green Party
The Election Commission on Monday allowed Jabir to form the new party.
Kaashidhoo MP Abdulla Jabir, who was the leader of the Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP), has resigned from the party and started the process of forming a new party called Green Party of Maldives.
The Election Commission on Monday allowed Jabir to form the new party.
Jabir resigned from the DRP on Sunday.
As per the law:

Candidates will have to submit a proposal for registration of the party with at least 3,000 signatures within three months from the date of approval to form a political party

If the number is not met during the period, the permission granted to form the party will be cancelled
At present, 11 parties are registered with the Election Commission.
