MDP officially presents presidential ticket to Solih

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, who won the MDP presidential primary last month, was officially handed over the ticket Friday evening.
After competing former close friend, MDP President Mohamed Nasheed, President Solih won and was formally presented with the ticket at a special meeting held in Carnival area in Male this evening.
The president was handed over the ticket by party chairperson and economic minister Fayyaz Ismail. The ticket was presented with an inscription that resembled a scroll from an earlier era.
"On Saturday, January 28, 2023, in accordance with the high value of the party members, in order to contest the 2023 presidential election with the blessings of God, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has been handed over the presidential ticket of the Maldivian Democratic Party," speaking on the occasion, MDP's Thimarafushi Constituency President Anwar Ibrahim said.
While MDP officially presented the ticket to President Solih at the meeting, which was not attended by the party president, a close aide of Nasheed filed a petition in the Civil Court seeking cancellation of the primary.
MDP has announced the final results of the primary on February 2. It is:
