British author Royston Ellis, who wrote the first and only biography of former president Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom, has died.
Ellis, who has published several books of various genres, died at the age of 82 at his home in Sri Lanka, where he has lived for the past 40 years.
He wrote Maumoon's biography, 'A Man for All the Islands – Maumoon Abdul Gayoom' in 1998. It details Maumoon's political career, how he came to power, and how he won the love and popularity of the people.
Apart from Maumoon, he has also authored seven other biographies. This includes the book of Tony the Larok, who was involved in promoting the islands of the country as he came to the country in the 1980s.
Living in Sri Lanka, Ellis also wrote books about countries in the region.
Ellis, also known as a poet, made valuable contributions to the world of music as well.
