Mini bus services in Male will be provided free of charge for an additional two weeks, MTCC announced Sunday.

A two-week trial of the mini bus service, rolled out under the government's Raajje Transport Link (RTL) national transport system, kicked off on 5 September, allowing residents of Male to experience the service for free of charge. The trial was set to conclude on Sunday.

However, MTCC said in an announcement that the free travel period has been extended to provide more opportunities for residents to experience the service and to improve the quality of service based on their feedback.

Once the trial concludes, passengers will have to pay MVR 7 per trip with exceptions made for:

  • Elderly; people aged 65 and above

  • Children below 3 years

  • School students in uniform

  • Disabled

MTCC, which has been tasked with providing the service, had earlier said that 2,257 people travelled via mini buses on the first day itself.
