Police urged the public to respect changes brought to traffic to make bus services easier.
6 September
Police are out on the streets towing parked vehicles and issuing fines to owners whose vehicles are parked long-term and illegally on the Raajje Transport Link (RTL) bus routes, to facilitate public transport.
Bus services resumed in Male on Monday after a gap of 11 years, with bus routes on main roads such as Majeedhee Magu, Ameenee Magu, Sosun Magu and Orchid Moad. Traffic jams occurred on some roads due to the congested parking along bus routes.
A large number of traffic police have taken to the streets on Tuesday.\
The President's Office said:
-
Police will tow vehicles parked on the streets that hinder bus shuttling.
-
If vehicles are parked illegally on bus routes, the police will issue fine stickers.
If vehicles are illegally parked, the police are advising people to take the vehicles elsewhere.
Police said:
-
Changes have been brought to traffic arrangements on some roads in Male to make bus services easier.
-
Everyone is advised to respect the changes, and adhere to them.
-
Action will be taken if vehicle parking regulations are not followed.
The RTL bus services do not have bus-stop indicators up in some areas yet. Therefore, some people are still mistakenly parking in these areas. Parking along the main bus routes is being prohibited and major parking zones are also being established in Ameenee Magu and Majeedhee Magu to facilitate bus services.
MTCC provides bus services from 5:45am to 12:15am every day.
