MDP Chairperson Fayyaz Ismail said on Thursday that the hidden facts related to the upcoming presidential election are becoming clearer.

Fayaz's tweet came a day after the Jumhooree Party (JP) announced that it would contest the upcoming presidential election separately and that its leader Gasim Ibrahim would be the party's presidential candidate.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has maintained that his intention was to go out with the current coalition in 2023 as well.

Only the Adhaalath Party, one of the coalition partners, accepted president Solih's invitation to back his re-election bid.

Despite discussions, JP refused to accept President Solih's invitation and decided to contest the elections separately. President Solih has been waiting for JP’s official response since then, and the party's presidential candidate has been announced on Thursday.

"The pieces are falling into place. The battle ground is set. The known unknown is getting clearer. Looking forward to interesting days ahead. It is indeed a pity that we are unable to continue this journey together. Insha Allah 2023 and victory is ours," Economic minister Fayyaz tweeted.

The agreement between the ruling parties is to stay together till the end of this term.

President Solih had earlier said that if the coalition parties are not able to stay together as agreed upon, the deal will have no purpose and it should be brought to an end from here.
