Army, police investigates chemical warehouse in Male
After the fire broke out in a garage below M. Nirufehi house in November, HDC dismissed reports that there were still chemical warehouses in the city.
Authorities on Monday launched an investigation into a warehouse used to illegally store a large quantity of chemicals.
An individual shared pictures of chemicals stored very carelessly in a warehouse on the east side of G. Gaskara in Male. Tagging the authorities, he wrote on twitter asking them to look into it before it becomes a risk.
MNDF on Monday confirmed that chemicals were illegally stored in the warehouse.

It is prohibited to store unsafe items such as flammables and chemicals in residential areas in congested Male.
A major fire broke out at a chemical warehouse in Henveiru ward in 2019, destroying 14 houses and claiming one life. Following criticism from the public over the incident, the government started the process of evacuating chemical warehouses from the capital and relocating them to the industrial island of Thilafushi.

Speaking to reporters after the fire, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih also said that there would be no chemical warehouses in Male and assured that all such places would be relocated to Thilafushi.
