Twelve lawmakers supporting party president Mohamed Nasheed's Fikuregge Dhirun faction resigned from MDP on Wednesday.
In addition to the MPs, MDP vice-president Mohamed Shifaz and former STO managing director Hussain Amr also left the party.
Party spokesman Anas Abdul Sattar told Atoll Tmes that the 14 members have sent resignation letters to the secretariat.
