12 MPs backing Nasheed quit MDP in latest sign of deepening rift
MDP's majority of 68 out of the 87-member parliament has now come down to 55.

Twelve lawmakers supporting party president Mohamed Nasheed's Fikuregge Dhirun faction resigned from MDP on Wednesday.
In addition to the MPs, MDP vice-president Mohamed Shifaz and former STO managing director Hussain Amr also left the party.
Party spokesman Anas Abdul Sattar told Atoll Tmes that the 14 members have sent resignation letters to the secretariat.

With the resignations and Tuesday's sacking of Central Henveiru MP Ali Azim, who also supports Nasheed, MDP's majority of 68 out of the 87-member parliament has now come down to 55.
