Ruling MDP's parliamentary group has said that they intend to request the party to take action against party president Mohamed Nasheed, who faces a no-confidence motion in parliament.
With last month's major change in the representation of parties in parliament, parliamentary committees have not been reconstituted and work has come to a grinding halt.
-
The committees could not be set up because the parties’ parliamentary group leaders could not agree on how to represent the parties and independent members in the committees.

MDP alleges that speaker Nasheed has deliberately stalled the committees

Nasheed's supporters and opposition members accuse the government of stalling parliament proceedings.
The deadlock on committee formation has stalled the no-confidence motions against Nasheed and deputy speaker Eva Abdulla.
In response to a question from Atoll Times at a conference at the parliament secretariat on Monday, MDP parliamentary group spokesperosn, Velidhoo MP Mohamed Abdulla Shafeeg said that the party is yet to formally discuss any action against Nasheed.
When asked whether they would refer Nasheed to the disciplinary committee to take action if the deadlock is not resolved, Mohamed Abdulla Shafeeg said, "We are thinking, some members are thinking about it."
MP Ali Azim, who belongs to Nasheed faction, was dismissed from MDP after he signed the no-confidence motion against Attorney General Ibrahim Riffath.
The no-confidence motion against Eva was taken off the agenda of Monday’s sitting and has now been placed on the agenda for Tuesday’s sitting.
However, important issues such as time to be given for debate on the motion are yet to be decided as the general committee is yet to function.
