Seychellois pres concludes 'very successful' Maldives state visit

Ramkalawan and spouse Linda Ramkalawan arrived in Maldives on Tuesday.

Seychellois President Wavel Ramkalawan concluded his state visit to the Maldives on Saturday, describing it as very successful. 

Ramkalawan and spouse Linda Ramkalawan arrived in Maldives on Tuesday.

Seychellois media quoted the country's president's office as saying that his visit to Maldives was very successful, with Ramkalawan saying that Maldives and Seychelles have now expanded their relations and identified various areas of mutual cooperation in the international arena.

These include climate change, economy and trade, tourism, as well as the Multidimensional Vulnerability Index, which is being set up to help small developing island countries, and the Loss and Damage Fund, which provides assistance to countries on climate change, Ramkalawan noted.

He added that as neighbours of the Indian Ocean, the two countries will work together for stability and maritime security in the region.

During Ramkalawan's visit, Maldives and Seychelles held high-level talks and signed four agreements. The agreements are:

  • Short-term visa waiver agreement

  • Air services agreement

  • A protocol on cooperation in the field of combating transnational organised crime

  • An agreement on cooperation in the field of youth development

Ramkalawan met with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and Vice President Faisal Naseem. He also visited several projects and important places in the Male area. They include:

  • Fish market and local market

  • Ghaazee School in Hulhumale

  • Observed Velana International Airport development project progress

  • Historical mosques and sites in Male
