The Elections Commission (EC) and the European Union (EU) on Sunday signed an MoU to make the administrative arrangements for observing the upcoming presidential election in Maldives.
At a ceremony held at the EC headquarters, the deputy ambassador of the EU mission to Maldives and Sri Lanka and EC chief Fuad Thaufeeq signed the agreement.
The EU is among the 15 international observers invited by the EC. The agreement signed on Sunday concerns the administrative arrangements for the EU observers who will be arriving in the Maldives for the September 9 election.
Last week, the EC also signed MoUs with local institutions including police, the Civil Service Commission, the Department of National Registration, the Maldives Post and the Local Government Authority for the election.
