The United Kingdom last week issued a global travel advisory on the threat of terrorism, and it had nothing aimed specifically at Maldives, the British High Commissioner to Maldives Caron Rohsler said Thursday.
The last change to the travel advisory for UK citizens traveling to other countries was made on June 22.
The advisory specifically stated, under the Maldives description, that there is a risk of a terrorist attack in Maldives. Some Maldivian newspapers reported this as directed towards Maldives, but British High Commissioner Rohsler said the change was not made only to Maldives in their list.
In a tweet following media reports, Rohsler said the travel advisory on terrorism is aimed at the whole world.
Travel advisories from the United Kingdom and the United States have always carried warnings for the threat of a terrorist attack in Maldives. The two countries began listing threat of terror under Maldives in their travel advisories after Maldivians began traveling to Syria to participate in the civil unrest, and the growing extremist movement in the country.
