No parliament sitting held after Eid holidays
An official stated that it was uncertain whether a session would take place Wednesday.
The Parliament will not hold a sitting Tuesday, following the Eid holidays.
The Parliament reopened on Monday after a two-week recess in May, but no further sittings have taken place since then.
Under the rules of procedure, parliamentary sittings are typically held from Monday to Wednesday. However, this week’s session was only held on Monday and lasted for about an hour before being adjourned early.
When contacted regarding Tuesday's cancellation, an official from the Parliament Secretariat said the matter would need to be looked into. The official also stated that it was uncertain whether a sitting would take place Wednesday.
In addition to the cancellation of Tuesday's plenary sitting, no parliamentary committee meetings are scheduled for the day.
Opposition MPs from the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) have raised concerns about the lack of activity in the current parliamentary session, attributing it to the government’s delay in submitting bills. In contrast, ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) members have said that although no plenary sessions were held, work was continuing within the parliamentary committees.
