Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom's Maldives Reform Movement (MRM) on Tuesday announced that it will contest the presidential election, and has opened nominations for its presidential primary.
The MRM, which has been dissolved by the Election Commission (EC) for not reaching 3,000 members, decided to contest the presidential election after rejecting an invitation to renew its coalition agreement with MDP presidential candidate, President Ibrahim Mohammed Solih.
The MRM opened the opportunity for those interested in contesting the presidential primary to submit their forms before 4 pm on Thursday. The conditions for contesting the MRM presidential primary are:

At least 1 year as a party member

Meeting the eligibility criteria for presidential candidates

Sign the party manifesto and agree to its provisions
The MRM presidential primary will be held on August 1. In addition, other key deadlines in Tuesday’s announcement are:

Withdrawal of names - before July 28

Announcement of candidates - July 28 at 4pm

Candidates sorting and draw - July 28 at 4:30 p.m
