Broadcom member Mohamed Abdulla joins ruling PNC
Although Broadcom is an independent institution, existing laws do not prohibit its members from holding membership in political parties.
Mohamed Abdulla, a current member of the Maldives Broadcasting Commission (Broadcom), has formally joined the ruling People's National Congress (PNC).
Abdulla, a former Member of Parliament and previously affiliated with the now-dissolved Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), signed his membership form for the PNC on Thursday. He submitted the document to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
In a decree signed as part of him joining PNC, Abdulla said he would work in line with President Muizzu’s policies to support the direction of the PNC.
Although Broadcom is an independent institution, existing laws do not prohibit its members from holding membership in political parties.
Abdulla was appointed to the Broadcasting Commission on 22 January. His transition to the PNC follows his tenure as a senator under the PPM before its dissolution.
Other political figures who joined the PNC on Thursday include Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Resources Ahmed Shiyam and Minister of Tourism and Environment Thoriq Ibrahim.
