Main opposition PPM-PNC said on Wednesday that true independence cannot be achieved unless former President Abdulla Yameen is brought back to power.
The opposition PPM-PNC has issued a press release on the occasion of Maldives’ 58th Independence Day. The statement said that Maldives will only have full independence by bringing Yameen back to power.
The statement said that this year’s Independence Day meets the people with feelings of darkness, heartache and gloom. The coalition followed with their reasons:

The statement said President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had sold part of the country’s territorial waters. Therefore, the country can be brought back in its original form by bringing Yameen back to power, the statement said.
The statement said the coalition wants Yameen to participate in the upcoming presidential election and change the situation in the country.
The deadline for nominations for the September 9 presidential election expires on August 7.
Although Yameen signed his candidacy form while in jail, the appeal against his 11-year jail sentence is still pending in the High Court.
