Muizz pledges 'just' PPM-PNC govt; no room for revenge
During Yameen’s government, when Muizz was the housing minister, all opposition politicians were sentenced to jail.
A PPM-PNC victory in the upcoming presidential election will establish a just and fair government that says no to injustice and revenge, the PPM-PNC presidential candidate Dr Mohamed Muizz said Thursday.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the party's Dhivehinge Raajje party camp in capital Male on Thursday evening to mark the beginning of Muizz's campaign for the September 9 presidential election, the Male mayor said that he has seen atrocities on the part of the current government.
"[Opposition leader and former] President [Abdulla] Yameen has been in prison for 1,000 days. We can see many people being tortured in many ways," Muizz said.
"Hopefully, with the support of you dear people, we will establish a government that will say no to injustice forever. A government that will say no to the spirit of revenge forever”.
It is not justice to be biased, he said, adding that there should be justice and equality in all aspects of the government, not only the judiciary. He also promised that a PPM government would “ensure justice in its most holistic sense”.
However, during Yameen’s government when Muizz was the housing minister, all opposition politicians were sentenced to jail.
Meanwhile, the coalition leadership has been recently speaking on podiums condemning the government's treatment of Yameen and saying that if the PPM comes to power, incumbent President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will face prison.
