Muizz appeals for votes to avoid 'wasting' money for runoff
"There is no need to go to a second round, really. The Election [Commission] has informed us that a second round will cost at least MVR 40 million".
Main opposition PPM-PNC presidential candidate Dr Mohamed Muizzu on Wednesday urged the public to vote for him to conclude the presidential election in a single round, saying that a runoff will only waste money.
Muizz made the remarks at the opposition coalition's 'Dhivehinge Raajje' campaign rally held in Sh. Feydhoo on Wednesday.
"There is no need to go to a second round, really. The Elections [Commission] has informed us that a second round will cost at least MVR 40 million," he said.
Instead of going to a runoff, the funds can be utilised to do a lot of things for islands like Feydhoo, he said.
"So there is no reason to waste money. I am sure you will vote to win the first round of the election and put this island on the list of islands that will win majority," Muizz said.
