Fonadhoo MP Moosa Siraj, who resigned from the ruling MDP last month, signed on to the main opposition PPM on Monday.

Siraj, who left the MDP ahead of the first round of the presidential election on September 9 and decided to support PPM-PNC presidential candidate Dr Mohamed Muizz, joined the PPM at Muizz's campaign rally held in L. Gan on Monday evening.

Siraj was welcomed on stage by former Fonadhoo MP and PNC President Abdul Raheem Abdulla who contested the April 2019 parliamentary elections and lost the seat to Siraj. As Siraj took the stage, Abdul Raheem greeted him and embraced him. And then, Siraj greeted Muizz.

In addition to Siraj, a large number of people from Laamu atoll joined PPM at Monday's rally.  Most of the members were previously from MDP. Among them is Ismail Ali, Laamu Atoll Council president.

The biggest gap between the 17 atolls where Muizz won the first round of the presidential election was in Kaafu atoll and Laamu atoll. There was a difference of about 1,200 votes between him and President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih from Laamu atoll.

Laamu Atoll results:

  • Muizz: 5,046 votes (51%)

  • President Solih: 3,834 votes (39%)
