The body of Abdul Rahman Adam, 65, who died following an assault in AA. Maalhos, is being transported to Malé for a post-mortem examination.

According to police, the decision to conduct a post-mortem was made as part of the ongoing investigation into his death. Abdul Rahman sustained severe injuries to the head and face while sleeping at his residence. He was pronounced dead early Sunday morning at the Maalhos Health Centre while receiving treatment.

Local residents said the incident occurred while Abdul Rahman and his wife were at home. The couple had been sleeping in separate rooms when the attack took place. Abdul Rahman was reportedly found injured and later taken to the health centre with assistance from his wife and others.

There are unverified claims circulating within the island suggesting that Abdul Rahman was believed by some to have practised black magic.

The couple’s three children do not reside in the island.

Police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
