MNDF seizes foreign vessel operating illegally in Maldivian SEZ

The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has intercepted a foreign vessel operating illegally within the country’s Special Economic Zone (SEZ).
According to MNDF, the vessel was detected during a surveillance operation conducted by the Air Corps using a drone. The Coast Guard’s Special Boat Squadron then intercepted the ship and took it into custody.
In a related operation, two Maldivian fishing vessels were seized 137 nautical miles north of V. Fottheyomuli on Wednesday night. The MNDF Coast Guard detained the two vessels while conducting a patrol in the Maldivian SEZ.
The MNDF confirmed that all three vessels are being escorted to Malé for further investigation.
