PPM-PNC presidential candidate Dr Mohamed Muizzu on Friday urged the people to elect a leader who can produce results, saying that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had wasted the last five years with the lack of progress in the projects he had started when he took office in 2018.

Muizz, who was the Housing Minister in the government of former President Abdulla Yameen and is contesting the election with his support, made the request at his presidential campaign rally in M. Mulaku.

Muizz began his speech at the meeting in Mulaku, the main island of Mulaku constituency where Yameen was serving in parliament before coming to power in November 2013, saying the island was special to him as well.

He urged the people of Mulaku to vote for him to give him the opportunity to start the work on the opportunity of his government to free Yameen “according to the rules of law”.

“I assure you that I will hopefully fulfill my first duty and release him,” he said, like he says at all his campaign rallies.

Muizz said some of the projects started by the government in Mulaku constituency have not progressed at a sufficient pace or have stopped completely.

"We have to all be united. We have to try to brighten our lives. We have to move forward with people who can do things for us. We have to move forward with people who can produce results," he said.

"Continue with people who know how to produce results. Will you decide on people who can't produce results? Or with people who know how to produce results. Five years have been lost. Will we lose more again?"

Muizz said the presidential election to be held next month is important to save the nationality of the people.

"As the election approaches, they will come with sacks of money. They will show lies to cover up these things," Muizz said.

This government has taken out a lot of debt and put us in a “debt trap”, he said. He said he would save Maldives from debt under his government. However, he did not go into details.
