Measles, which has been declared eradicated in Maldives, has been confirmed in another Maldivian who returned from abroad, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) announced on Sunday.
In late July, a Maldivian returning from abroad tested positive for measles. However, he has no connection with the patient discovered on Saturday, the HPA said.
The HPA said in a tweet on Sunday:
-
With the discovery of another case of measles, efforts are being made to prevent further spread of the disease
-
They are working to identify the possibility of spreading the disease and those who came into contact with the positive case
-
The patient will be monitored and ring vaccination will be administered to those who have not received the vaccine
The agency did not say whether the new patient had completed the measles vaccine. However, the previous patient had completed two doses of measles vaccine.
