Muizz vows to provide housing to all Maldivians in his term

If he wins next month’s presidential election, he will provide housing tor all the people of Maldives by the end of his five-year term, PPM-PNC presidential candidate Dr Mohamed Muizz pledged on Thursday.

The Malé mayor was speaking to reporters after visiting the Hiyaa flats built in Phase II of Hulhumale under the housing project implemented when he was the housing minister in the first PPM government.

Muizz said the government has neglected the people living in the Hiyaa flats. He also promised to find solutions to the problems faced by the residents of the flats. In addition, he said, he would ensure the right to housing for all citizens in need.

"In fact, our vision is to provide housing for all people. By the end of our five years of government, hopefully no one will have to wait for housing," Muizz, who entered the presidential race after the PPM presidential candidate, former president Abdulla Yameen, was barred from contesting the presidential elections, said at his first door-to-door campaign.

The list of Hiyaa flat recipients, which was compiled during the last days of Muizz’s tenure as Housing Minister, was re-compiled by a flat committee after this government came to power. When the list was revised, some names in the original list was omitted. Yameen had earlier promised that the missing people would get flats in the next PPM government.

Muizz reiterated that promise at the press conference.

“This government came and did not give flats to those who were not given flats from the flat list announced by the President's government,” Muizz said.

"I will hopefully fulfill that promise. Flats will be provided to those people with the highest priority from among the flats built in our government”.
