Addu Mayor Ali Nizar said on Wednesday that the city council has decided to give land to all eligible people that have applied for land in Addu.

A total of 1,000 plots of land were announced in Addu in January.

  • 500 plots of 1,500 sqft in Hithadhoo

  • 300 plots of 1,500 sqft in Feydhoo

  • 100 plots of 2,000 sqft in Hulhudhoo

  • 100 plots of 2,000 sqft in Meedhoo

The Addu council decided to allocate land to all the eligible applicants at a meeting convened on Wednesday.

At the meeting, councillorHussain Zareer moved:

  • 1,000 plots of land will be given to the 1,000 people who get the highest points

  • The rest of the eligible list is also approved

Zareer's motion was passed unanimously by the council members.

Nizar said at the meeting that in this opportunity opened to apply for the land:

  • A total of 4,160 people applied for land

  • Of these, 3972 are eligible

  • Although the remaining 188 people are not eligible for the time being, the number of eligible people is expected to exceed 4,000 after the opportunity to submit complaints

"Among these 188 people [who are not eligible] there are some forms that we have not decided on immediately due to incomplete information. So when the information comes complete at the time of complaint filing, I believe the number of these forms will be more than 4,000," he said.

"So from the city of Addu, we will give 4,000 plots to the people of Addu”.

'Unmarried youth will also be given land'

Nizar said the land allocation in Addu will also include young people who have not married.

"This time, young people are included, to give land. Even if they are not married, they will be given land. I believe that the Addu council is giving them the opportunity to build houses and get married," he said.

"We will announce the land use plan for the next 1,000 plots this month. There is already land in Addu. Therefore, there will be no problem in giving 4,000 plots," Nizar explained.

In addition, he said:

  • The council will soon start the process of allocating 1,000 plots of land

  • The list of candidates will be announced on Thursday.
